Reasons Why Jurassic World Made Money:

Big stars - Chris Pratt is a big star that has been recognised recently from doing 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' which is a Marvel film and Marvel films are quite popular.

The opening weekend sold $208,806,270

Jurassic World came out on 12th of June. This is usually the first weekend that teenagers taking their exams would be finished.

It is part of a Franchise which automatically draws in people who were interested in the first three movies. This also makes it more likely to be selling more money more quickly.
The director of Jurassic World - Colin Trevorrow - and executive producer - Steven Spielberg - are well known. Colin Trevorrow may not have been very famous but he did direct Safety Not Guaranteed and the rating on that got 7 stars out of 10. Whereas, Steven Spielberg is most known for the starting the 'Jaws' Franchise.

The advertisment was probably a big part of being sucessful. They had multiple different trailers, posters, billboards and probably advertisments in magazines and newspapers. The advertisments probably had to pay a lot of money but because Jurassic World was a sucess it paid off because they made a lot of money.

Reflective Horror Sequence Analysis

When we were deciding the 'storyline' for the film, I eventually came up with the idea of a serial killer with a mask on roaming around the college. I did say that the killer could stalk particular student's to make it more effective; but the person I was picturing to be the serial killer didn't actually want to be the killer. However, the idea of the serial killer being in the school did get put down for the main idea. Our audience was aimed at teenagers aged 15 and over.

When we were filming, I felt like I was the only one who was being positive and it was slightly off putting for myself although I didn't stop trying to be positive. We took it in turns to film as the first shot was of the schools sign and entrance. We did this to set the scene for the audience. The shots then continue into the school, and then fades into black.

The next shot is a close up of the killer moving towards the camera and past it. The camera then cuts to two teenagers, which shows us the film sequence is indeed set in a college. The two teenagers are made to look as if they are running from someone, possibly away from the serial killer. My critique for this shot was that, as I was in the clip I tried to be positive and acted like I was actually being chased and my group member I was with didn't quite act like he was being chased.

The next shot was of a door closing at the top of the stairs. This was made to make the viewers feel tense as to who made the door close. The shot is a medium to long shot. After that there is a shot of people walking towards and past the camera. This is another way of showing that we're in a college. It can also make the viewers feel tense as to what's going to happen to the other college students. The camera then flashes to white and fades out to a new scene.

In the next shot we see a hallway which leads to some stairs, which is panned up the stairs. I did this shot to make the viewers question if the killer is up there or not. I then recorded my shadows walking past the wall to be the killers shadow walking past. This was also to make it a bit more tense. I then walked around outside where there were bushes, making it feel like someone was going to pop out. As nobody did I particularly focused on a bench that was old and broken slightly, this was to represent loneliness and solitude.

The next thing I filmed was a spiral staircase that had a door open at the top. I thought that it would make a good ending to the sequence as the mystery is yet to be solved. I used the lighting in the area as well to my advantage because it is low-key lighting and low-key lighting doesn't make you feel as safe as high-key lighting.

Throughout the project, I felt like it was me doing everything myself as the others wouldn't help as much as I would've liked them to. One of them did more than the other but only a bit. I felt like I was doing it on my own, like it was mostly me who was filming, coming up with the idea, bringing what I could to make a mask & editing and embedding the film on my own and on my own youtube channel.

The Shining - Analysis

In this scene the boy Danny, riding around on his bike, it starts from a long shot of Danny riding down a hallway. The camera is in a darker area to where Danny is, which can give a sense of insecurity. When he turns around the corner the music gets louder, this is to give the effect of getting people on the edge of their seats as they feel like somethings going to happen to Danny. Danny is also wearing red and the bike is partially red as well and the colour red connotes to danger and blood. The camera then tracks the boy as he rides down another hallway and then turns around the corner. As he stops the camera stops as well, and we see two doll-like girls holding hands as illustrated above. The camera cuts to a close up of Danny and then back to the back of Danny. They start talking to him by saying, "Hello Danny." in unison and they drag out the word 'hello'. The non diegetic sound starts to go quiet after they say that. This could emphasize that something is going to happen. The camera cuts back to Danny who is looking very fearful at this point, but in a way everyone would if someone you haven't met already knows your name. His breathing is more frequent as they start talking again saying, "Come play with us." The non diegetic sound then goes louder for about 5 seconds and then it gets louder by adding a gong-like sound to the non-diegetic sound. The camera then cuts back to the long shot of the girls and Danny's back which the non-digetic sound being drawn out. They repeat, "Come play with us Danny."

The non-diegetic then kicks back in accompanying a cut to the girls on the floor covered in blood. The blood is on the walls and there's also an axe in the picture. The axe could be the murder weapon as it is covered in blood. The axe also foreshadows what is going to happen later in the film as Danny's dad uses an axe to try to kill Danny and Danny's mother. As I said earlier, Danny is riding a bike that has red on it and is wearing red could be the meaning of the reason he is seeing the girls, as red connotes to blood and danger. They start saying "forever and ever." In between shots of this and how Danny first saw them in the hallway. The shots are quick and sharp which creates a sense of tension. The camera then cuts to Danny who is really scared, and then cuts back to the girls who are closer to the camera this time as the camera has moved closer to them. They keep repeating "And ever" which could emphasize that because they died a horrible death then they could be wanting Danny to die the same way they did. However, as they did do repeat the words "and ever." The camera gets a closer shot of them until the 3rd shot which is Danny covering his eyes in a close up. Afterwards, he peeks out of them and he sees nothing and there was no sign of the girls. This could suggest that they are in fact, ghosts or figures of his imagination.

In this scene it's shortly afterwards Danny writes 'redrum' on the door his dad is indeed breaking down with the axe. 'Redrum' spelled backwards is 'Murder' which could suggest that a murder had already happened in the bathroom as it is a bathroom and the bathroom is where the old woman was. This could mean the film is always foreshadowing the things that are going to happen, as the axe in the scene with the girls is what killed them, so the dad intends to kill his family with an axe as well. Then the bathroom scene with the woman could be where she died and now because his wife is in the bathroom he intends to kill her there too. The non-diegetic sound also kicks in here as well as it creates the feeling of tension because it makes me feel that the wife is going to die, and that he is going to kill them both. Also the way she is screaming at the dad is ear piercing and suggests that she is terrified of her husband at that moment, it also suggests that a murder is going to happen in the bathroom.

In this camera shot it is a close up of him saying, "Here's Johnny." This is him imitating Ed McMahons introduction of Johnny Carson. Afterwards, he moves back to open the door and his wife cuts his hand in defence and the blood splats onto the door as well. He moves away holding his hand yelling in pain. The lighting is high-key lighting which would usually make us feel safe. This contrasts with the non-diegetic sound and the screaming of his wife. The shot then cuts to an over-the-shoulder shot as we're in a completely different scene because the guy who was showing them around at the start is on his way over. The lighting in this shot is low-key lighting with only the car lights being the brightest. The sound then turns diegetic as the characters can hear the car pulling up to the hotel. As it does, jack turns around to stop. The shot being a mid shot because the shot is no longer than the waist. The non-diegetic stops when they hear the car and the sound turns completely to the Diegetic sound. The next shot is Danny running towards the camera as the camera tracks him backwards. When Danny stops the shot is a mid-shot. The lighting in this shot is high-key lighting as it is well lit, the sound is diegetic because you can just hear Danny's footsteps which he would be able to hear as well. The next shot is Danny hiding in the cupboard as it is a close up. The lighting is low key as it is a confined space. All these shots, scenes and different lightings can all go to the Horror Genre, because there's blood and other horror conventions as well like the axe acting as the murder weapon.

We Need To Talk About Kevin Analysis

We Need To Talk About Kevin Analysis

At the beginning of the clip, the camera first shows the white curtain in a long shot then zooms into a close up of the curtain, this creates a sense of tension as it looks more like a horror. This makes me feel tense as you feel as though something is going to jump out at the camera. The first scene contrasts with the next scene as it is very dark and the next is bright and has lots of colour to it; the noise also contrasts because it goes from quiet to loud. In the first scene the sound was non diegetic as there is a clock like noise which repeatedly speeds up and gets louder as we get closer to the curtains. The non dietetic sound then it goes into the crowds noise in the next scene. When we first see the second scene in the tomato festival we see the people from a birds eye view which zooms into a close up of them. When she is being picked up we see it from a low angle which emphasises her importance. We then see her from a birds eye view which is a mid shot.

The second scene shows how she lived before she had kids and a husband. We know she lived in Spain as there was a lot of tomatoes in the second scene as there is a yearly tomato festival; during this sequence there is a lot of red (the car and house as well as the tomato festival), red connotes blood and can also create the feeling of love. During the festival scene, she gets carried in a shape of a cross. This could represent that she may be a christian, it could also show that her having kids was a burden as the cross was to Jesus Christ. It could also be an angelic view as she has her arms out like an angel, the way she is covered in red could represent there may be danger. When she is being picked up we see it from a low angle which emphasises her importance. We then see her from a birds eye view which is a mid shot. When they put her down in the tomatoes, as the tomatoes look like blood this could foreshadow her families and others deaths.

In the next scene we see curtains which symbolises that the camera is in someones house. The camera zooms in on the dirty plates and food which could tell us she isn't looking after her house, which give us an impression that she's given up. As she gets up she knocks over some pills which signifies the impression that she's given up as she could have over dosed. She looks out the window as she wakes up and its an oblique angle as its tilted which could mean her world is falling apart because when a camera tilts it gives a sense of distortion. When she breaks the door handle after getting up, the way she grabs the door to get it open shows her attitude is saying she's giving up and she doesn't care about her belongings. As she walks outside she faces her house and the background isn't in focus (shallow focus), this shows that she doesn't fit in with the people around her as the other buildings are clean and nice whereas hers isn't. This is because everyone knows about what her son did and they're taking it out on her. The camera changes to her house and the camera goes into focus which can suggest its her little corner where she can fit in because its her house and she has her own world there. As the house has red paint stains on the front of her house and on her car, it could suggest that a massacre could have happened there; this links to the massacre at the school as her son went and killed a lot of people. Her son killed a lot of people at his school including his dad and little sister.

When she goes back into the house after closing the door, the camera cuts to a Point Of View shot which we see a nice clean house interior. This could be the house they lived in before. The house which she lived in is the complete opposite to which she is living in now. In the POV shot we see a little girl which is her daughter, as she is only little she could represent innocence.

The camera cuts to the mother after the girl turns around and smiles, she appears looking down at the camera from a high angle which then makes the camera at a low angle. She then starts refreshing herself in some water, in the water they edited the clip to cut to her sons face; this could represent her trying to cleanse herself or her son trying to take back what he did. It could also suggest that after everything he did, he is trying to over power her. This could be because he knows she would have nothing left but her memories.

The sense of innocence is repeated as she is dancing with her dad and they're laughing, the scene also creates a sense of security due to the high key lighting and the atmosphere. The scene cuts to the mother smiling at her daughter and husband dancing which could mean that she hasn't smiled in a while. In the next scene her daughter is playing with her red teddy bear which is a dog.

In the background you can see someone walking to the camera with a black bag as you can't really see their face. This could mean that he is hiding something creating a sense of mystery. He slams it on the table next to her daughter and says to her "Good Morning." after saying this he appears to have something on his mind which could mean he's feeling a bit conflicted. His dad appears behind him and ruffles his hair, which he forces himself to smile this could suggest he doesn't get on with either of his parents. This could also suggest that he resents them by the way he looks at them when his dad walks away. At the end of the clip the daughter slams down her stuffed animal; this could represent the deaths because the teddy is red.

Mise-en-Scene

Setting...

In this clip from 1:56 - 3:17 it sets the scene in which they're trying to prevent Voldemort. The music helps set the scene when they are doing the barrier spell. The way the camera tracks the barrier being built helps the setting become more interesting as to what is going to happen next. The way the barrier pushes the dementors away suggests that something is going to happen because the dementors are dark creatures in the wizarding world. The camera then starts panning over to the left and you see the bridge leading to hogwarts as the music starts fading out.

Props & Costume...

In this clip you see the Joker and Batman fighting. You can clearly see that their costumes are very different. In the scene the prop that the joker uses is the pole that he hits batman with. Batman doesn't have props other than his gadgets he carries on him. The prop is relevant to the scene as they are fighting

Performance...

In this clip Bella and Edward appear to be getting married. You see her smiling walking down the aisle, with the camera tracking backwards as she walks forward. The camera cuts to the people she looks at who are looking at her with smiles as well. Then you see Edward and Bella appear on the end of the aisle together and she looks forward to see a vampire who scares her. She plays a convincing scared reaction shot and as she looks back the camera goes to a low angle after letting us see blood in rose petals. Edward doesn't seem to be scared at all like Bella as he looks as if he's embracing the fact they have just killed everyone at the wedding. This gives us a convincing performance.

Sound & Lighting

This clip of Jurassic Park has Diegetic and Non-diegetic sound. It also has music in it as well which suggests it has Diegetic sound in. However, when they get close to the Bracisarous, the music is playing and they are talking, this is Diegetic sound. Although at the start they are talking and the sound isn't playing, this is Non-diegetic sound. The music increased the power of the flow of the sequence. It is a very unique music which is also the theme tune of the film.

This clip of The Conjuring is a good example of lighting, for this it's mostly low key lighting because it gives the spooky effect and also it is dark around her. Only her face and body is lit but it is only lit a bit. The lighting gives her figure light so that when the hands come from the back, they are also lit slightly.

The Conjuring

My favourite film is The Conjuring, this is because it was a very good horror film and in truth I couldn’t sleep for two days because of it. The film was one of my first horror films I had watched and I personally really liked the film. It had equally suspenseful parts and scary parts. The most scariest bit of the film in my opinion (because of it I wouldn’t sleep for two days) was the bit where you saw the woman on top of the wardrobe, as shown below.

The film creates a sense of suspense from the very start as the people are talking about Annabelle the possessed doll. It then goes into the title ‘The Conjuring’ in bold big letters with a very loud suspense tune. It was a tune/sound that would happen with a scary bit in the film. I think the key aspects of the film was even though the woman named Carolyn, who was the children’s mother was talking to Lorraine about a photo she found on the fireplace. The picture consisted of the family at the beach with big smiles and she said that she would never forget the day they all had when they were all laughing and smiling together. I think that this is an important aspect because it’s the memory that brings her back to reality when she gets possessed. Another key aspect of the film is when Carolyn is laying down sleeping and the ghost hovered over her and spat blood in her mouth. The ghost also had been bruising her which had been said to be low iron deficiency; this was not the case because later on in the film she gets low on energy and the spirit possesses her. This was explained by Lorraine as she said she was ‘grooming’ the mum so she can take over her body in order to kill the child. Another key aspect was, the woman who lived in the house called Bathsheba, was into the dark arts and stuff (Satanic things). She got married when she had her first baby, she sacrificed it - only a week old baby – to the devil and then walked out to the tree out near the lake and cursed all who tried to take her land and hung herself.
This film is one of my favourite because there are jump scares, suspenseful moments and other moments that are quite nice, like family games and family times. All these make up a brilliant film that the Conjuring is. I enjoyed how they did the make-up on the woman who played Carolyn when she was possessed and how they did special effects such as the ghosts. One of my favourite scenes is when Lorraine is unpegging the blankets and the sheet blows out of her hand and gets stuck on something, however the shape of it is a like a human’s figure.

It then blows up to Carolyn’s bedroom and blows off and you see the ghost in the window looking at Lorraine and walks out of the window view.

Deadpool

Movies are usually released in September, October and December time. This is because everyone usually has more time on their hands. Deadpool came out in February and I think that they did this because it would be the only big film out at the time; which would’ve ensured the success by the number of people going to see it. The success of a film is measured by many aspects but most are known ‘Box Office’ where all top successful films are categorized.

At the start of Deadpool they have a picture theme for the starting credits. They then go straight into the action. Deadpool is a comedy action film, which immediately starts with comedy. The film is rated ‘R’ and the age is rated fifteen. Personally I think it should be rated eighteen instead because of language in the film, also from the sexual content in the film.
Deadpool became a success because it was the only big film out in February. It also was open to more people to be able to see it due to the age rating fifteen. I also think it became a success because it drew in people from the very start with the starting credits; this is because the action and the comedy comes straight in. The film is a box office success because a lot of people went to see it and it made a lot of money.

The film does have a lot of bad language in, blood and gore and sexual scenes in. I think that this means that kids should not be watching the film. This brings down the rate of success by ages 15 and under. If they are seeing this film they will need to be supervised by their parents. Also this film could be an influence to under fifteens to start swearing because Deadpool is a comic book character which could be seen inspirational because of that.

The film achieved success because of its background of the character. The Deadpool character started off as a comic book character from Marvel, which most people would read especially children. However, the film made the character in a way that discarded the fact that children could not watch at a young age. This made it more appealing to teenagers because of the fact it had blood and gore in, that is what most teenagers like in a film.
In conclusion I think that the film was a success because more people went to see it. It was the only big film in February and this made more people feel the need to go see it whilst no other big films were out. As a Comic book character the film should’ve been made so that all ages could go see it without being influenced to do bad things. The fact the film started with pictures at the starting credits its very much persuading to keep watching as it’s explaining the battle scenes. Overall, the film achieved success because it was well executed in the making of it.
